Summary of Changes at The Old Fire Station surgery

Currently we have been far busier than we have ever been and demand for appointments is far outweighing what we have available to offer. There is also a lot of recent changes and some new ones ahead at the surgery which are outlined below.

  • Staff changes Admin
    • Danielle our Medicines manager has left and Georgia Waite has now replaced her.
    • We have welcomed new reception staff – Zoe
  • Chronic disease nurse
    • Sarah McLoughlin has now left the surgery
  • Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANPs)
    • ANPs are nurses trained to Masters Level with extended competencies and capabilities. They are adept at emergency or same day consultations. You may well therefore find yourself be called back by one of our ANPs rather than a GP
    • Tamsin Hill started 18months ago
    • Pema Brown will be working 2 days a week as an ANP
    • Maria Hernandez-Diaz will be starting on 25th October
  • General Practitioner (GP)
    • Dr Stansfield left for personal reasons at the end of June
    • Like the rest of the UK, recruitment for new regular GPs has proved difficult and we have not been able to replace him.
    • We are therefore increasing our skill mix of clinical staff by recruiting other health care professionals.
  • Other healthcare professionals
    • For muscular problems ie shoulder/back/hip pain, you can now be assessed by a qualified physiotherapist. These can be either telephone or face to face appointments.
    • Social prescriber – if you have social needs such as isolation, financial advice, would like to join a club but don’t know where.
  • Telephone service
    • At the request of patients, a new queue system has been started
    • We have increased the number of phone lines coming into the surgery

If you would like more detailed information on the changes, please ask for one of information leaflets
