Lines are open 8.30am to 1.00pm and 2.00pm to 5.30pm Monday to Friday.
You will be asked for a brief medical reason for your call. This ensures you are seen by the appropriate clinician. Our reception staff are trained in confidentiality and will ensure your call is treated respectfully.
Routine Appointments
Appointments last 15 minutes. This restricts us to one appointment per medical problem.
Please let us know in advance if you are unable to keep your appointment.
Your consultation does not have to be with your registered GP.
Emergency (Urgent) Appointments
There are a limited number of appointments available urgently on the day if appropriate. You will be triaged by our Reception Team using a Clinical Navigator to ensure you are booked in with the correct clinician or you may be signposted to an alternate service such as Pharmacy or Urgent Treatment Centre, this is to ensure emergencies are prioritised correctly.
HUB Appointments
We may offer HUB appointments on the weekend at St Peters Surgery if unavailable here.
Chaperones are available for all appointments at the surgery.
Blood Tests
Requesting a blood test 16 years and over
Have you been asked to have a blood test by either a member of staff at the Surgery or a clinic you have attended?
Yes: If you have been asked by the hospital or a clinic to have the blood test, have they provided you with the form?
No: If you have not consulted a health care professional, you need to do so prior to booking your appointment. This is to ensure that a blood test is the right investigation for you and if it is, that all the appropriate tests are requested.
Have you been given the form?
No: Please ask the clinic to provide you with the form or ensure that the Surgery has received the letter that details what investigations are needed.
Yes: Please bring the form to your appointment. If the Surgery has requested the form, the form will be on your records for you.
Please be aware if your blood test is fasting or non-fasting. If you are unclear, then please ask.
How do I book a blood test and where can I have my blood test taken?
- Book online via the link on our website
- Book in person at reception or by calling our telephone appointments line on 023 8044 8901
We may not always have the availability of appointments to suit your needs. If this is the case, you may be given alternative options to book your test:
- Via one of lour local Hub sites. This can be booked via reception. Please ask for a copy of your blood form to take to the appointment.
- You can book an appointment directly with University Hospital Southampton via 023 8120 4877 or patientbooking.uhs.nhs.uk
Please ensure you have had at least a glass of water prior to your appointment, including all fasting appointments. Failure to do so can make your veins harder to find, or affect your kidney function, which may mean your blood test will need repeating.

How do I receive the results of my recent investigations? (ie blood test, ultrasound, Xray)
My investigation was requested by my GP Surgery: You can do either,
- Look on the NHS App via ‘GP Health Records’ and then ‘Test results’
- If you are not able to see results of tests you have recently had done, then please contact the surgery & ask that you have access to this.
- Please be aware that you may see the results before your clinician has. This may take up to a week. Please wait to view the clinicians’ comments before contacting the surgery.
- If you do not have access to the NHS App, then please contact the surgery for your results 7 working days after your test and after 3pm Mon-Friday (Please be aware, some test results take longer to obtain)
My investigation was requested by someone other than my GP Surgery (ie hospital Doctor)
- You may be able to see your results via the NHS App (as above)
- My medical records – If you have been seen by University Hospital Southampton, some of you may have registered for online access with my medical records where you should be able to see your latest results.
- If you want feedback on the results or you do not have access to my medical records, then you need to liaise with the team who requested your investigation ie the hospital Doctor.
- If your investigation was requested by another organisation other than UHS (ie musculoskeletal team) and you would like to obtain the results and/or obtain feedback, then you need to contact the team/person who requested your tests.

Alternative Services
Our reception staff use a protocol to determine the appropriate clinician and service for you. At times they may suggest there is a more appropriate service for you. More information on choosing the right service can be found here.
Home Visits
Home visits are undertaken for patients unable to get to the surgery. These are generally the very elderly and infirm and terminally ill patients. The decision to visit at home is at the discretion of the doctor who may telephone to check on the patient's condition before visiting.
The telephone number for home visit requests is 023 8044 8558. Requests should be made before 11.00am on the day the visit is required.
We now have a HUB service for home visiting, this means that the doctor that visits you may not always be a GP from this surgery. You may not recognise the GP but they should always carry ID on them.
Please call the surgery if you are unsure on the visiting GP.
