Blood test cancellations
Posted or Updated on 27 Nov 2024
The UHS (University Hospital Southampton) lab have implemented a new pathology system this week. Unfortunately, the process has experienced difficulties which has resulted in a large backlog of blood tests awaiting to be processed. There is a risk that blood test samples already taken will no longer be able to be processed due to the delay.
UHS have requested GP Practices to cancel ALL routinely booked blood tests for the next week. The hope is that this will help them to rectify issues and help clear the backlog. The request may be extended further.
We are currently reviewing all blood tests that are booked to review clinical need and will contact all those affected, to cancel existing bookings. Please be reassured that we will maintain a list of all those affected and will rebook as a priority, when able to.
If you have a routine blood test booked with UHS, you will need to cancel and rearrange. If you are unclear if your blood test is routine or urgent, please contact the surgery for advice.
If you have been given a blood test form by the surgery prior to the 1st July 2024, please contact the surgery as we will need to generate a new updated blood test form that is compatible with the new UHS lab system.
